Mercy Archives

Our Collections

Mercy Archives houses the historical and administrative records of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas dating back to 1843. Mercy Heritage Center, our primary repository, holds over 5,000 linear feet of archival records in over fifty collections. These records document ministries such as schools, hospitals, and other programs. They also document the lives of individual sisters and the story of the Community itself. Record types include documents, books, photographic prints, audiovisual materials, and artifacts. Our collections consist of records from across the United States, South and Central America, the Caribbean, Guam, and the Philippines, as well as individual ministries located in various other countries.

Sisters, scholars, genealogists and anyone interested in the history of the Sisters of Mercy are welcome to contact and access the archives. Mercy Heritage Center can assist visitors on-site through appointment, as well as provide reference assistance remotely.
