Following three years of conversation, collaboration and
planning, the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas agreed in May 2004 to
reconfigure the existing structure of 25 regional communities consisting of
at the time more than 4,000 Sisters and about 3,000 Associates as six Communities.
This reconfiguration allows us to better focus our
lives and mission as we develop strategies for combining and using resources to
better serve persons suffering from poverty, lack of education and insufficient
healthcare by advocating for just and sustainable development throughout the
world and enhancing relationships among diverse cultures and countries.
