Mercy to Co-Sponsor Conference Exploring Racism, Class and Power
April 15, 2016 - April 18, 2016
The Sisters of Mercy are once again co-sponsoring the annual Ecumenical Advocacy Days, April 15-18, in Washington, D.C.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Lift Every Voice! Racism, Class and Power.” It will explore whose voices are being left out of public policies and the political debates during an election year, as well as how we can “lift up every voice” as Christians concerned about social, economic and racial justice. Topics to be examined include voter suppression, criminal justice reform, dismantling white supremacy, money in politics, criminalization of protesters and the environmental impacts of corporate power.
In a workshop on mining, Sister Mary Pendergast will share her experience advocating against natural gas infrastructure in Rhode Island.
