Prepare to Vote Using Guide Focusing on Social Justice Issues
October 10, 2014
The Sisters of Mercy has released a 2014 Midterm Election Guide to encourage voters to consider candidates’ stances on poverty and the Sisters’ areas of critical concern, including Earth and immigration. The guide contains a series of questions to help voters determine where candidates stand in each of those areas, statistics to counter misinformation, biblical quotations and statements made by the Sisters of Mercy.
"We hope that the issues raised and the facts presented in the 2014 Election Guide will help voters select candidates who share Mercy's concern for people who suffer from poverty, sickness and lack of education," said Jean Stokan, director of the Institute Justice Team. "While this is not a presidential election year, the voice of Mercy is needed to inject compassion into conversations on policy and on national priorities during Senate, congressional, state and local races that will shape our nation for years to come."
