Sisters of Mercy from across the Institute were in attendance, including several new members; members of the South Central Community, including Sisters Mary Rose Bumpus and Linda Falquette of the Community Leadership Team. Friends from other religious congregations also joined the celebration. The Brothers of the Poor provided the music for the ceremony, including a lively version of Catherine’s Suscipe. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a celebratory reception.
The ceremony culminated Sister Maria Teresa’s three-year process of transferring from the Missionaries of Charity during which she lived and ministered with the Mercy community in Kingston. A native of Kenya, Sister Maria Teresa said she was attracted to the Sisters of Mercy because of their commitment to “empowering women and children, having the courage to speak on issues of justice and human rights and standing against systems that oppress humanity.”
