Sister Kathleen Ann Quinn, Age 90

Mid-Atlantic

Saturday, July 18, 2020

During Sister Kathleen’s years in ministry in childcare, she served at St. Mary’s Home in Syosset, New York, and at Mercy Home for Children in Brooklyn, New York. As an educator, she taught at Holy Rosary School and was one of the founding members of the Dwayne Brathwaite School, both in Brooklyn. She also served as principal at St. Gerard Majella in Hollis, New York, and St. Helen’s in Howard Beach, New York. In 1993, Sister Kathleen became part of the Sisters of Mercy leadership team in the Brooklyn region as the ministry and justice coordinator, a post she held until 2001. For the next 10 years, she was director of the Dorothy Bennett Mercy Center, serving the needs of the immigrant community in Brooklyn.

Sister Kathleen was a driving force for justice and peace as she lived out her remaining years at the Sisters of Mercy Convent in Whitestone, often initiating petitions and mailings to representatives about current topics she cared about so passionately.
