Sister Carolyn Parker, Age 76

Mid-Atlantic

Thursday, September 3, 2020

Both upstate and downstate New York were the beneficiaries of Sister Carolyn’s varied ministries. During her years at Mercy General Hospital in Tupper Lake, she moved from medical technician to laboratory supervisor to assistant administrator. Downstate, she served the Provincialate, in Dobbs Ferry, in the finance office and as vocation director for the community. In 1991, Sister Carolyn began a 14-year period as director of pastoral care at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Yonkers.

In 2005, her ministry journey was redirected to one of prayer and of presence with personal illness. For five years she resided at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Yonkers, and in 2010 she returned to the North Country to reside at Uihlein Mercy Center, now known as Elderwood of Uihhlein. During these later years, she was a long-time president of the resident council at Elderwood.

Sister Carolyn and her family were devoted to each other; she beamed when she related her many visits and phone calls from them. As well as her family, she was grateful for her longtime friends and her Mercy community. She will be deeply missed by all.
