Sister Rosellen Li, Age 80
Wednesday, September 16, 2020
Born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, Sister Rosellen moved with her parents and six brothers and sisters to Guyana, South America, when she was in elementary school. From Guyana, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in Dallas, Pennsylvania, in 1959.
Throughout her years of service, Sister Rosellen ministered as an elementary school teacher, both in the United States and Guyana, a special-education teacher, a licensed massage therapist and instructor, and a translator. In her most recent years, she achieved fluency in Spanish and volunteered her expertise as a translator for patients at the Volunteers in Medicine Clinic, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Sister Rosellen was also a longtime volunteer at Mercy Center in Dallas, where she offered manicures and hand massages to residents.
In so many ways, Sister Rosellen, following in the footsteps of a healing Jesus, committed her life to the compassionate and gentle ministry of touch—whether she was exuberantly touching the young minds and hearts of children, or lovingly caressing the weathered hands of an elder. With simplicity and love, she “touched” the lives of many.Donate in memory of Sister Rosellen Li
