Saturday, October 31, 2020

Sister Joanne Mary Braeunig was born in Sandusky, Ohio, on St. Patrick’s Day in 1931. Her early ministry was teaching elementary school in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1968, she moved to Piqua, Ohio, and was principal of St. Mary’s School until 1978. She spent another eight years as principal of Our Lady of Lourdes in Cincinnati.

After years in education, Sister Joanne became administrator and local coordinator of McAuley retirement convent in Cincinnati, where she oversaw significant remodeling. Later, she ministered at the H.O.M.E. Program, assisting economically poor older residents in Cincinnati’s Walnut Hills area. Following that ministry, Sister Joanne volunteered at St. Boniface School, writing grants for programs to enhance the school’s offerings.

In 2010, she came back to live at McAuley Convent, where she chaired the liturgy committee and enjoyed planning Masses and other liturgical celebrations.
