Sister Mary Alice O’Brien, Age 83

New York, Pennsylvania West

Sunday, December 13, 2020

Sister Mary Alice enjoyed a religious life that spanned 65 years as a teacher, educator, administrator and librarian. She taught home economics at Rochester’s (New York) Cardinal Mooney High School and later at Our Lady of Mercy High School, where she served as dean and vice-principal from 1978 to 1982. She was principal at St. Andrew and later St. Margaret Mary grade schools, and then librarian at St. Charles, Holy Rosary and Holy Cross grade schools in the Diocese of Rochester.

“I loved being a principal and a teacher. Both gave enriching and enjoyable times with students, parents and co-workers. I thank God that I can reflect back on many blessed and lovable moments in these ministries,” she once said. Sister Mary Alice was known for her beautiful sewing and needlepoint work.
