Sister Barbara Elizabeth Cote
Entered: September 8, 1954 – Cumberland, Rhode Island
Current Ministry: Ministry of Prayer and Presence
Motto: I trust in the Lord – Spirium in Dominum
My reflections on my life as a Sister of Mercy begin with teaching young children in grades 2-5 for nine years. The Mercy of God sustained me through these years. Next I took secretarial business courses at Bryant College in Smithfield, Rhode Island, for approximately two years. Again the Mercy of God was my power during these courses. Another experience opened for me at a bank in Providence for three months. Then another new ministry was doing clerical work at the St. Mary Academy - Bay View high school and elementary school office for 16 years, followed by work in respite care.
I then embarked on a driving ministry (taking sisters to their appointments) and finally retired to Franklin Court Assisted Living in Bristol, Rhode Island. My various ministries prepared me for future days at Franklin Court with eight Sisters of Mercy and 90 lay people. I praise God for my 65 years in Mercy, which gave me new joys and happiness and a fulfilling life.
