Sister Catherine Donovan
Entered: September 8, 1959 – Cumberland, Rhode Island
Current Ministry: Community volunteer
Motto: To know Christ Jesus
In 1945 I was introduced to women religious who tendered me along merciful paths from childcare through grammar and high school education. This nurturing presence in my early years inspired me to enter the Mercy Community. My deepest desire was to be for others all that those daughters of Catherine McAuley, our founder, had been for me. Surprises and challenges, personal and professional, were part of my journey as the circle of Mercy took root in me. I have had numerous opportunities to be Mercy along the way. Through teaching, administration, pastoral caregiving, mission coordination, board membership, representative for religious in the Diocese of Fall River, and service to the Northeast Community, my life in Mercy has come full circle.
Sixty years of jubilee is but a drop in the ocean of blessings that have been mine. My religious motto—“ To know Christ Jesus” —continuously calls me to see that “Jesus” in whomever I meet.
