Sister Helen RuaneSister Helen Ruane

75-year Jubilarian

Entered: December 28, 1944 – West Hartford, Connecticut

Current Ministry: Ministry of Prayer and Presence

Motto: Domine non sum dignus (Lord, I am not worthy)

As a little girl I wanted to be a sister.  When I was in high school, however, my father died, three of my brothers went to war, and I couldn't leave my mother with younger children to care for. I said to myself, "If God wants me, he'll get me!"  He did in 1944. For 54 years, I taught first grade and kindergarten.  These were moments/years of grace and joy as I could feel the presence of God in each child. The children were so innocent and relied on me for many things. My privilege now is to visit the sick at Saint Mary Home. God has been very good to me and I thank him every day.
