Sister Joan Hickey
Entered: September 8, 1949 – Cumberland, Rhode Island
Current Ministry: Retired
Motto: In his will is my peace
My years in Mercy have been happy ones. I taught in local Rhode Island schools but I always wanted to be a missionary. I was privilaged to work in Belize for 14 years and in San Pedro, Hondurus, for one year. After leaving Central America, I got a M.S. in biology. While looking through a health magazine, I discovered a new career, physician assistant. I submitted my application and was accepted in the program in Maryland in 1975. I studied at the local college and finished in 1981. I worked in Maryland mostly, Baltimore, for 38 years. I retired in 2018 and did volunteer work in the health field. God has always been my co-pilot. I have been truly blessed.
