Sister Marjorie Connolly
Entered: July 1, 1969 – Cumberland, Rhode Island
Current Ministry: Ministry of Prayer and Presence
Each Sister of Mercy's journey is unique. My invitation to Mercy began as a young child taught by the sisters in elementry school. In high school, my future became clearer and on September 8, 1961, I and 43 other young women entered the Sisters of Mercy. I was in the novitiate for two years and seven months when I made the decision to leave. It was 1964. Life went on. No regrets; only gratitude. Five years later, however, God presented me with a second invitation to Mercy. And the rest is history. “Celebration! Jubilation! Look at how we've come this far!”
Since I reentered alone in 1969, my former band of sisters with whom I entered in 1961 embraces me as a member. I am grateful because 1961 truly is the beginning of my life in Mercy. I have been an elementry school teacher in a number of schools in the Diocese of Providence. I was also a director of religious education for 25 years, an alumnae director at a Catholic high school, and an executive director of a community/senior center. My last formal ministry was working for seven years with the life and ministry administrator in Rhode Island. Now, my ministry is one of Prayer and Presence. My life in Mercy continues to be a blessing. "My God I am yours for time and eternity!"
