Sister M. Rachel Torrez

 As I reflect back on my healthcare ministries, I realize the privilege I had of being able to serve so many. Being a Sister of Mercy allowed me many opportunities to serve in non-traditional ministries. As a nurse, I served as a nursing leader at Mercy Hospital in San Diego which led me to a ministry that allowed me to survey healthcare organizations in over 26 states.  For the last 18 years, before I retired, I was able to work in Arizona at an agency where I investigated nurses who had their professional lives somewhat fractured. Along this journey there were many blessings for the nurses and me. All along the way, I tried to put God at the center of all I was doing. My preparation as a spiritual director now allows me to try to help others “see God in all things.” There are no words to describe God’s love for me. I have deep gratitude to the Sisters of Mercy who helped along the way and to the community who supports me always.
