Sister Cecilia (Elizabeth) Coefield was a dedicated teacher and administrator in schools in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and California.
At the age of 18, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in Manchester, New Hampshire. She received
her bachelor’s degree in education from Mount St. Mary College in Hooksett, New Hampshire, and her master’s degree in education from Loyola University of Los Angeles, California.
Sister Cecelia taught elementary school for 29 years in the dioceses of Manchester, Rhode Island, Boston, Massachusetts, and Los Angeles, California. She served as vice principal at Trinity High School and principal at McDonald School and St. Joseph Junior High School, all in Manchester, Rhode Island.
After leaving the ministry of education, Sister Cecilia served as activities coordinator at the Warde Health Center in Windham, New Hampshire. She developed a wholistic activity program to meet the intellectual, social, and physical needs of each sister. She was also the activity director at the Carpenter Center for Catholic Charities from 1993 until her retirement in 2003.
Sister Cecilia had a very special place in her heart for animals, especially her dog Pudgy.
