Age 87

Always thoughtful and caring of family, friends, colleagues, and sisters in community, Sister Margaret’s behind-the-scenes goodness was her gift to all.

Margaret first met the Sisters of Mercy in high school at the Academy of the Sisters of Mercy in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania, where the seeds of her religious vocation were sown. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in Merion, Pennsylvania, at the age of 18. She earned a bachelor’s degree in humanities from Gwynedd-Mercy College in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania.

Her early years were spent in elementary schools in Pennsylvania and Virginia, where she taught children from second to eighth grade. Earning a master’s degree in mathematics from Penn State University opened the door for the next 35 years as a math educator, treasurer, business manager, and financial officer in secondary schools. She served ten years as the financial officer at Archbishop Prendergast High School in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. Her favorite ministry was serving for six years as a volunteer in the gift shop at Mercy Hospital of Philadelphia.

Her patience, humility, and humor in her final years continue to be an inspiration.

She was motivated by her motto, “That I may love Him and make Him loved.”
