Sister Margaret Wasserman, RSM

Age 92

Known as little but mighty, Sister Margaret was an award-winning educator who was also innovative.

A native of Fremont, Ohio, Sister Margaret was one of eight children. At the age of 19, she entered the community like her sibling Sister Rita Mary Wasserman, RSM, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and began her college education at Our Lady of Cincinnati/Edgecliff College, receiving her bachelor’s degree in education. She undertook her post graduate studies at Akron University in Akron, Ohio, earning her master’s degree in education administration and supervision.

Her love for her students and commitment to their education is obvious from her five plus decades of teaching in the Toledo, Ohio, diocese. For six years, she taught at St. Ann School and for 18 years she taught at St. Joseph Grade School, both in Fremont, Ohio. In addition to teaching at St. Joseph’s she did the planning and implementation for the transition of the kindergarten from half day to full day, writing the curriculum and developing the daily schedule.

In 2006 the Catholic Diocese of Toledo, presented Margaret with the Golden Apple Award which honors outstanding individuals who devote their lives to teaching in Catholic schools. She spent her final years at the Bernardine Home in Fremont, Ohio.
