Sister Marie Geraldyn McGreevy

Age 95

Sister Marie Geraldyn brought care and concern to her work as a teacher, leader and financial administrator.

She graduated from St. Xavier Academy in Providence, Rhode Island; earned a bachelor’s degree from Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island; and a master’s degree in education from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in Cumberland, Rhode Island, at the age of 21. Her sister Catherine also was a Sister of Mercy. 

Sister Marie Geraldyn’s first taught high school for 11 years in the Providence and Falls River Dioceses, both in New Hampshire. Next, she became the registrar at St. Mary Academy, Bay View, in Riverside, Rhode Island, for ten years.

She served on leadership for six years for the former Providence, Rhode Island, regional community. Geraldyn’s ministered as an assistant principal for finances at Mercymount Country Day School in Cumberland, Rhode Island, for nine years and finance director for the Family Outreach Center in Providence, Rhode Island, for six years.

In her later years, Sister Geraldyn enjoyed being with people and loved musical performances. In her retirement she enjoyed going out with others and as often as possible attended all community meetings and events.

At her profession she chose the motto, “In His Will is My Peace.” That peace she strove for in her carefulness about being prepared for all circumstances.
