The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas encourages all U.S. citizens to vote on Tuesday, November 3, and to consider a range of factors and values when making their voting decisions.
“As people of faith, we are called to witness for others,” said Institute Minister Sister Rose Martin. “As Sisters of Mercy, that witness is expressed throughout Catholic teaching and in our Critical Concerns of immigration, nonviolence, care for Earth, racism, and the education, health and spiritual needs of women and girls.”
The Mercy Voter Reflection Guide, a resource based on Mercy’s Critical Concerns, invites U.S. citizens to consider their values as they evaluate their voting options and includes reflection questions and links to resources.
In the words of Pope Leo, “Democracy remains healthy … only when rooted in the moral law and a true vision of the human person. Lacking this foundation, it risks becoming either a majoritarian tyranny or a mask for the dominance of economic and technological elites.” (Message to participants in the plenary session of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, April 2026)
The Sisters of Mercy continue to hold all voters, candidates and elected officials in their prayers.
