Age 85
Sister Ann Veronica Bivona leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and dedication to education. Her remarkable life serves as an inspiration to all who had the honor of knowing her.
Born in the Bronx, she entered the Sisters of Mercy at the age of 23 in Dobbs Ferry, New York. She began her teaching career at Good Shepherd School in Manhattan where she taught middle school students religion and language arts for 14 years. She dedicated the rest of her educational career to students in the poorest Congressional District in the nation as principal of St. Margaret Mary School in the South Bronx for 42 years. She also was the longest serving member of St. Catharine Academy’s Board of Trustees which is also in the Bronx.
A member of the 125th Anniversary Committee of St. Catherine’s, Ann worked for more than two years to create events which celebrated what makes St. Catharine’s special. The Gala and Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral were just two of the year’s highlights.
Inspired by her motto, “Come Lord Jesus,” Ann invited Jesus into her life each day to journey with her.
