Age 86

Throughout her life of service, Sister Rosemarie responded to the call of Christ to care for one another inspired by her motto, “Nothing is done on earth without consuming oneself.”

She entered the Sisters of Mercy in Cumberland, Rhode Island, at the age of 19. She earned degrees from Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island, and Rhode Island College in Providence, Rhode Island.

Initially, she taught first grade at St Mary School in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, for two years. Next, she relocated to Belize for ten years to teach elementary school and work at the Kerchi Indian Women Center in Toledo, Belize. At St. Ignatius School in Belize, she participated in Girl Guides (British Girl Scouts) attending meetings and proudly wearing her scout uniform.

In 1980 she returned to Rhode Island and worked first as a nursing assistant and later as the assistant director of activities for Mount St. Rita Health Centre in Cumberland,
Rhode Island.

In retirement she served on the Mercy Pastoral Team and was the contact person for Mercymount Hospitality House in Cumberland, Rhode Island. In response to the Critical Concern of our shared responsibility for all of creation she chose a green funeral to protect our Earth.
