Age 95
Passionate about her service, Sister Patricia ministered as an educator, librarian, researcher and archivist.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Sister Patricia entered the Sisters of Mercy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at the age of 18. A graduate of Mount Mercy College (now Carlow University) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a bachelor’s degree in English, Pat received a master’s degree in English from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree in library science from Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania. Pat taught in various elementary and high schools in the Pittsburgh diocese before becoming the English Department’s acting chair at Carlow College.
In 1976, Patricia became the coordinator/associate director at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for the in-service educational program. She also ministered as the library director and associate professor Trinity College in Burlington, Vermont, and Caldwell College in New Jersey. Upon her return to Pittsburgh, Patricia served as director of congregational archives for the former regional community of Pittsburgh. From 1993 until 1997, she was the executive secretary for the Archivists for Congregations of Women Religious. When the Sisters of Mercy reorganized, Patricia became archivist to the new Sisters of Mercy Community of New York, Pennsylvania, and the Pacific West encompassing the area of Rochester and Buffalo, New York, Erie and Pittsburgh, PA, and the Philippines.
Patricia also researched and wrote about the history of the Sisters of Mercy in Pittsburgh and served as a volunteer at the Western Pennsylvania Historical Society.
