Sister Amanda Carrier professed her perpetual vows on October 8 at St. Patrick and St. Anthony Church in Hartford, Connecticut. In addition to those who filled the pews, over 100 participants were present online, sending virtual greetings.
Director of New Membership Sister Eileen Campbell welcomed those gathered, saying, “It is no surprise for anyone that there would be people attending from all over the country and all over the world. … Reserved and unassuming, Mandy catches one’s heart without your noticing. Her creative approach to life uplifts us as a community into loving kindness.”
Sister Kelly Williams and Sister Margaret Taylor read the Scripture passages Mandy chose for the day. Sister Mary Ellen Brody took obvious delight in giving the Instruction on the Vows. She said that Mandy demonstrated an adventurous spirit as she explored community. Mandy’s reflection about the vow of poverty was telling: “God’s love has deepened my experience of the vow of poverty. I recall thinking of poverty as an appreciation of abundance. … Now I consider that abundance in the million ways I encounter God every day, in nature, in people, in events.”
Mandy returns to her role as campus minister at Merion Mercy Academy in Merion, Pennsylvania.
