Age 96
Sister Colman Krise was a Sister of Mercy for 77 years. She graduated from Patton High School in St. Augustine, Pennsylvania, and received her degree in Elementary Education from College Misericordia. She also studied Theology at St. Francis College in Loretto, Pennsylvania.
She served in the ministry of Education in the Dioceses of Altoona-Johnstown, Brooklyn, Pittsburgh, and Scranton.Sister Colman also taught in Guyana, South America, for five years and often recalled those years with great delight. While there, she lived among the native Amerindian people and often had challenging travel experiences by jeep and by boat.
Upon returning to Pennsylvania, she became the Coordinator of Religious Education for five parishes in the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese. In 1999, Sr. Colman received the Prince Gallitzin Cross Award from the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese for her earlier work of serving as Religious Education Coordinator for five parishes in the Diocese.
Subsequent ministries included Sisters Coordinator at McAuley Hall in Cresson and Mercy Center, Dallas, Pennsylvania where she was also the Assistant Administrator.In recent years, Sister was an active member in the ministry of Prayer and Presence at Mercy Center, Dallas.
Sister Colman was an avid reader, loved nature, and enjoyed puzzles and card playing. She always looked forward to her summer vacations in the Poconos, and travels to other parts of the country. Her warm and loving family were her special treasure and she cherished family gatherings, especially the annual Krise Reunion and holiday gatherings. She will be remembered for her deep sense of caring, her joyful spirit and her warm hospitality.
