Age 91
Sister Elizabeth Marie McCarthy was a Sister of Mercy for 66 years. She was proud of being an alumna of Fordham University, receiving her bachelor of science degree in 1953 and a master of science degree in 1964.
Sister Elizabeth Marie’s ministry began as a teacher at St. Simon Stock and St. Francis Xavier Schools in Bronx, New York. She continued serving children with special needs in New York at Our Lady of Lourdes School in New York City and Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry. Her dedication to children and families brought her to the next phase of her ministry in social services in New York City, Yonkers, White Plains, and Mount Vernon. Her devotion, humor, and love blessed the people of Sacred Heart Parish in Mount Vernon for more than 30 years. Sister Elizabeth Marie lived the Works of Mercy and shared her gifts with all who had the privilege of knowing her.
