Sister Joanmarie, an educator at heart, had a generous and prayerful spirit.
She began her educational career while in the novitiate in Watchung, New Jersey, teaching English to her own class of novices at Mount Saint Mary’s. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgian Court College (now University) in 1955 and a master’s degree from Catholic University in 1969, both majors in English.
Next she ministered as a high school English teacher for 54 years. Sister Joanmarie taught at Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, her alma mater St. Mary High School in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and then at Red Bank Catholic High School for 38 years where she taught many of the children of her former students. She also served as vice-principal for six years at Notre Dame High School.
In her later years she ministered as a lector at the liturgies at McAuley Health Care Center in Watchung, New Jersey, where she resided. She especially enjoyed anything that involved singing!
