Age 95

Inspired by her motto, “That I may be Christ-like in all things,” Sister Aileen approached each day with a spirit of love, creativity and practicality.

Born in Great Neck, New York, she attended St. Aloysius Elementary School in the same town and Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset, New York. Influenced by the Sisters of Mercy who taught her, she entered the Sisters of Mercy at the age of 18 in Dallas, Pennsylvania.

She studied elementary education at College Misericordia in Dallas, Pennsylvania, Fordham University in New York, and University of Scranton in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Educated as a teacher, for 17 years Aileen gave her energy, talent, and creativity to instructing young people in a variety of settings and assignments in the Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Rockville Center, New York dioceses. Next, she ministered as principal for two years at St. John’s School in Scranton, Pennsylvania, three years at St. Joseph’s School in Babylon, New York, three years at St. Kevin School in Flushing, New York, and four years at St. Anastasia School in Douglaston, New York.

For four years, she served on the leadership team of the former Dallas Regional Community.

She also excelled as a pastoral care minister for 12 years and volunteer chaplain for ten years, bringing God’s tender mercy and compassion in the Dioceses of Brooklyn and Rockville Centre, both in New York, Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Harrisburg and Scranton, both in Pennsylvania.

She spent her final years in the Sisters of Mercy Convent in Whitestone, New York continuing to inspire all with her kindness and strong faith in her loving God.
