Summary
The Domestic Violence /Sexual Violence Advocate/Coordinator is responsible for working with victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Violence including; providing crisis intervention and direct support services, conduct community outreach and presentations to improve victims access to services and resources to promote stability, safety, and wellbeing of survivors and their children. Coordinate and arrange meetings with the Domestic Violence and Sexual Violence stakeholders and victims’ services providers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Works directly with victims of sexual violence /domestic violence in providing support, the full realm of advocacy, referrals, of sexual violence and domestic violence (police, etc.) in ensuring that victims receive respectful and appropriate services and information.
- Acts as liaison for victims of sexual violence with other agencies and criminal justice agencies and keep victims updated on the status of their cases and any criminal proceedings.
- Educates victims on the criminal justice process; accompany victims to court when needed.
- Prepares protection/restraining orders and other paperwork including victim assistance compensation.
- Networking with and making referrals to other agencies that could assist the victims.
- Responsible for monthly, quarterly and annual reporting of all grant activity including statistics relating to services provided, the numbers served and gathering and classifying other relevant data and statistics.
- Assists eligible victims with the Victim of Crimes Compensation Office (VCCO) application process.
Qualifications
- Proficient in Spanish preferred (ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written).
- Respect for and knowledge of different value systems; ability to understand and communicate with people of different socio economic and cultural backgrounds.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must pass child abuse and neglect registry screening, criminal background checks, pre-employment drug testing.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must possess skills to be empathetic, nonjudgmental, supportive, respectful and empowering in working Domestic Violence and Sexual Violence victims/survivors.
- Must be knowledgeable of the dynamics of Domestic Violence/Sexual Violence and be able to respond appropriately in crisis situations.
- Must be willing to adhere to the philosophy, mission and policies of the Mercy Center.
- Must be capable of working collaboratively with others and other agencies.
- Ability to engage in constructive self-care activities to manage secondary trauma.
- BSW or BA degree and at least three (3) years of experience in social services or a relevant degree.
Compensation
Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefit package including medical, dental, life insurance, accidental death, long term disability and 13 paid holiday/year.
Starting salary $40,000- $45,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
